“This is just a quick sample of a season long timelapse video of the wild flowers blooming over the next several months. The Bluebonnets fade and the reds and yellows take over near the middle of April and last until the blast furnace of summer turns all of central Texas brown.”

“A sampling of the creatures inhabiting the 3 month stagnant rain water in my rain tank. I really need to build a better system with circulation to help when mixing in the bleach … and a better filter system to keep the bad stuff out in the first place. The first little creatures have some incredible suction power going on to bring the food particles flying at them. The big monster looking thing is a mosquito larva.”

“Columbus day party got out of hand and I seem to have stolen a military jet and terrorized the good people of San Andreas … just for being there. It’s not really like me so forgive me.”

“I’ve been wanting to make a set of fire spinning devices that create a pulsing fire trail but so far this is the best I’ve come up with. Part of the problem is the fact I’m in central Texas where the number of wet days safe for testing such devices has been dwindling year by year. Today was my fist chance to test the combo of a bull roarer (a flat strip of metal or wood with slightly bent edges so that it spins in the wind) with a steel wool. The steel wool burns off too fast as the bull roarer speeds up fast enough to make the roaring sound. Back to the drawing board … still looks cool though.”

“Melting aluminum scraps in my wood burning shop stove and pouring it into sand molds made from local clay and sand dug right out of the ground. The crucible is a piece of steel square tubing with one end welded to be the bottom.”

“A wide angle video walk through of my “too many projects” world. Thinking I need one of these cams just mounted on a track hanging from the ceiling, and have it follow me around while I work. Maybe I can even program it to remember where I set that lost wrench down. I really do use most all that stuff in the 8 or 10 different projects I have going at any one time. Wish I had room for a separate work station for each project and the machine shop was only for machines. Someday ….”

“Had to speed the video up about 16 times to make this at all interesting. Testing some spare motors at 24 volts to see if they can handle it. Still a bit too lame for what I was hoping for. Maybe for a slow motion performance art show….along a city sidewalk…with slow motion mimes. It does carry my full body weight though very very slowly. It will be making it’s first live appearance at Dorkbot in Austin Feb 18th. 2 weeks to get a set of faster screw drives or air system or something. When I’m all done I’ll be editing all the build sessions into segment for the soon to be produced show. I’m getting better at the editor and loving the options, just need to practice enough to make it second hand.”

“The first steps by my latest robot “Big Crawler”. I still need to mess with the leverage ratios on the screw jacks to give more stroke and speed but at least it’s finally moving. Even with a mostly dead battery it was able to carry all my weight standing on the back axle. It actually needs lots of weight in the rear to be able to lift it’s legs in the front. I’m thinking of just rigging some servos to flip some toggle switches as a quickie radio control set up since it’s so slow there’s no reason for variable speed.”

“4 Servos, a receiver, a battery, a micro camcorder, and some aluminum wire to hold it all together. “The Thing” is a collection of the minimal number of parts to get the widest range of movement. 2 legs, each with 2 servos. The leg lift servo is literally mounted right onto the arm(servo horn) of the leg sweep servo via aluminum wire strapping it together. Close ups and more details when I can get time to learn my the new cameras and editing software details. This one doesn’t play on the windows player so this is also a test upload for the format.”

“I wanted to do a show from my shop where I make lots of crazy things big and small. I got ideas I tell’s ya…BIG ideas! I thought I could work through any of the problems and hack it together just long enough to get it going till funding came through. This was suppose to be the pitch for new camera and audio equipment. The audio had to be overdubbed via several windows sound recorder players all so I could deal with Movie Maker only having 2 mono tracks. Plus the sound was done on so many different mics and machines, and the “advanced tone control” option is not one so that’s as good as this system gets. Hence the need for the new stuff.”
